Parent Survey Questions & Responses

A. Why did you choose to homeschool?

B. What are the benefits of homeschooling? Or what is the greatest benefit of homeschooling?

C. How has CHESS helped you homeschool?

Amy Anzures:

A. My husband and I believe a Christ centered education is best. We also wanted the flexibility of choosing the curriculum and pace of our children’s schooling.

B. So many benefits! We are able to tailor schooling to each child, matching their interests and abilities.

C. There are subjects at both the middle school and high school level that I would struggle to teach. There are also electives outside of the core subjects that I would not be able to teach. In both cases I would prefer an in-person teacher versus a DVD or online class for my children.

Lorna Cullison:

A. My husband and I felt God’s call to at least attempt homeschooling when our oldest son was preschool age. We wanted to share our faith with our children, spend time in God’s Word with them, and develop close relationships.

B. I would say that time together is the greatest benefit. Spending intentional time together enables life lessons to be taught “in the moment”. It also allows shared experiences, such as reading books together, to create close relationships.

C.  CHESS has provided the teachers who have skills beyond mine-such as teaching chemistry and Spanish.  It has provided classroom experience for my children that prepared them well for future community college classes, and allowed for more social interaction with peers.

Nona Faber:

A. Homeschooling provides choices. I can select curriculum that fits my child’s learning style. Subjects can be taught from a Biblical worldview. It provides flexibility to adjust learning rates for complex or overwhelming concepts. Finally, it allows me to take advantage of opportunities such as field trips.

B. Homeschooling has facilitated in establishing and maintaining parental authority and the knowledge that our ultimate authority is God. It has also enabled me to maintain a strong, healthy relationship with my children.

C.  CHESS has been a great help to fill in the gaps in our curriculum. Drawing upon the expertise of subject matter experts has enhanced and broadened our education journey.

Anonymous:

A.  We homeschool because of the freedom it gives us to teach a Christian worldview. It enables us to choose subjects and curriculum to meet my children’s interests and abilities.

B. All of the above! (The freedom to teach a Christian worldview and to choose subjects and curriculum to meet my children’s interests and abilities.)

C.  The teachers, who are experts in their subject matter, have provided engaging teaching and coursework, along with a personal interest in my kids.  My children were very prepared for college work.
