Advice from Homeschool Moms
What advice do you have for a new homeschooling family?
- Don’t stress about the younger grades too much. They learn by doing life with you!
- Do your homework before starting high school and know what you need to do before you begin (which classes, how to graduate, transcripts, etc.).
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing, what would you say?
- Focus on more home than school
- Have grace with yourself
- Have a support/accountability group
- Don’t buy so many textbooks and test-taking guides
- It’s probably best not to worry about kids keeping up with “grade level” or finishing everything, but just make sure they are learning something every day.
- Pay more attention to how your children learn rather than what you were used to in your schooling experience
How has homeschooling benefitted your family?
- It has brought us closer and enabled us to travel more and do more activities during the day when most kids have school (i.e., horse riding lessons, working at grocery store)
- Homeschooling has benefitted our family by giving us time together.
- As a military family, we’ve had a lot of flexibility with moving, and we can travel whenever we want.
