Tara Taylor

Administrator

Tara Taylor homeschooled her two sons beginning in kindergarten, and with the help of CHESS, through middle school and high school. She is grateful for the influence of the teachers at CHESS in their lives, for their enthusiasm, expertise and special gifts which influenced their education, helping to equip them for life. Her desire is to see families finish the good work they have begun in homeschooling and for students to have a lifelong love for learning. She has been the administrator for CHESS since 2002.

Becky Hauge

Coordinator

Becky Hauge earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s Studies from the University of Massachusetts in 1991. Before starting a family, she worked in crisis support for women and teens. She has taught childbirth education and enjoyed providing labor support as well. Since being the mother of four children, two biological and two adopted from Russia, she has made raising and teaching them at home her main occupation. Becky has been homeschooling since 2000 and her two older children are attending the College of William and Mary. She has also utilized partial enrollment in DOD schools as well as several online homeschool academies and cooperative education groups. Becky and her husband, Robert, of 25 years, spent from 2012-2017 living in England and Japan. While in England Becky worked part time as an administrator at a joint UK/US military base. All of her children have attended CHESS and have been enriched by their experiences there. She joined the CHESS staff in the fall of 2017 and enjoys supporting families to homeschool through high school in a Christ centered environment.   On site she provides teacher support, coordinates adult and student volunteers and maintains attendance records. She also helps organize fundraising activities, outreach events, and seminars. Her desire is to support homeschooling families in every way possible.

Kathy Kuhl

Advisor

Kathy Kuhl taught at CHESS from 2003-2011. After son graduated from homeschool in 2006, she enjoyed CHESS so much that she kept on. She earned teaching certificates in math and English while completing her B.A. at William and Mary. Although CHESS classes are not designed for students with learning challenges, those students are one of Kathy’s special concerns. At CHESS, one of her duties is to helps parents and teachers determine if a class is a good fit for their children with learning challenges.

Outside CHESS, she gives consultations to parents homeschooling exceptional children (or considering it). She also writes, and speaks internationally on helping struggling learners at home. She is the author of three books,Homeschooling Your Struggling Learner, Staying Sane as You Homeschool, and Encouraging Your Child, as well as magazine articles, book reviews.
